BLACKSBURG JULY 4th PARADE WINNERSUnder blazing sunshine, Blacksburg's 24th Annual July 4th Parade rolled onto Main Street. The parade, sponsored by Mount Tabor Ruritan Club, was led by the Grand Marshal, Christopher Poff, Blacksburg’s newest Eagle Scout and a member of Troop 706, sponsored by St. Mary's Catholic Church. Nearly a hundred vehicles, walking units, and floats lined up for the event. The Color Guard was supplied by local Scout Troops in honor of the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouts of America. The guard consisted of Bobby Goetz, Andy Hammel and Jacob McCoy from Troop 704 (Luther Memorial) and Benjamin Poff from Troop 706 (St. Mary's). This year’s theme was “Today's Youth — America’s Future”.
Parade Chairman, Gavin Faulkner, would like to thank the judges — Tom Roberts (Roberts Engineering & Boy Scout Troop 44), Christy Mackie (Pocahontas Press, Marketing), and Jay Speidell (Student Intern at Pocahontas Press) — and everyone who helped to make this year’s parade one of the best ever. |
