Ruritan, America's Leading Community Service Organization
Mount Tabor Ruritan Club
is in service to the Blacksburg, Virginia and New
River Valley communities,
for 46 years.
Fellowship, Goodwill and Community Service Since 1965.
Please join and work with us.
The membership of a Ruritan Club represents a cross section of the citizens of the
community. Ruritan membership is open to all persons of good character regardless of
race, gender, religion or political affiliation. Active and regular participation in club activities
is required of all members.
The Mount Tabor Ruritan Club gathers the first
Thursday of the month at Slusser's Chapel Community Room beginning at
6:00 PM and
adjourns about 8:00 PM. The chapel is located on Mount
Tabor Road 1 1/2 miles off North
Main Street just outside of Blacksburg in Montgomery County in Virginia.Click here to help locate Slusser's
Chapel or click the "Locate Us" button at the top of this page.
Dinner, a brief business meeting, a program, and
fellowship are features of each meeting. Every meeting is divided into three distinct
parts.
Our target for the year is to exceed 90 percent
attendance at each regular meeting. If a member is unable to attend a regular monthly
meeting, it may be made up by
- attending a meeting of the Board of Directors,
- working four
hours on a club project, or
- attending a meeting of another Ruritan Club within 30 days
before or after the missed meeting.
Meetings of the Board of Directors are held the
last Thursday of the month beginning at 7:00 PM at the
Slusser's Chapel Community
Room. Board of Directors and other officers are listed
and can be found by following the
Contact Us link in the buttons
to the left.
The Mount Tabor Ruritan Club does not expect
significant financial support from our members, therefore dues are not
expensive. Instead, we invest "sweat
equity", time, and talents to support efforts to better our community. Quarterly dues are
$31.00, payable to the treasurer
in advance.
This modest fee pays for
- monthly home-cooked dinners,
- liability insurance,
- district and national
dues,
- quarterly Ruritan National magazine,
- tax-exempt status,
- assistance of trained club, zone, district and national officers of
Ruritan,
- literature on efficient club operation
- club operating expenses.
- Further member benefits are listed on the
Ruritan National website

We have two major fund-raising activities:
All-you-care-to-eat fish fry
is held the second
Saturday, 57 p.m., MaySeptember at the
Slusser’s Chapel picnic shelter.
Approximately 300 gallons of tasty
apple butter are
made each fall and sold by the quart. This wonderful
product can be ordered online while
available.
-
All funds raised, after actual event expenses are paid, are used for
community service.
-
All operating expenses for the club and membership itself are paid
entirely by collected dues.
-
All labor for these fund-raising events is donated by volunteer
members, family members and guests.
-
These two activities provide more than $10,000 for our annual
community service projects.
