Development for Blacksburg and the New River Valley is one of these
projects. The intent is identifying, compiling and listing online resources

Business Technology Center
The Business/Technology Center (BTC) at Virginia Tech is a business assistance program. But it differs from the typical business-help program in four distinct ways.
We offer a wide variety of top-quality business services
"general and specialized" because we have the ability to retain the most
appropriate consultant in each case.
We may be able to support your company's development by
absorbing part of the cost of these professional services, so that they are
available to you at an affordable cost.
We focus on supporting technology: either companies that are
manufacturing high-tech products, or companies that are seeking to apply
high technology in their operations.

We manage an entrepreneurial library at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center.
Corporate Research Center
CRC's Business Assistance Program is conducted by Virginia Tech’s
Business/Technology Center (BTC). This center is managed by the
university's Pamplin College of Business. Its purpose is to provide
faculty, student, private, and public consultants to companies to solve
problems. Problems can relate to any facet of corporate management
including strategic planning, marketing, intellectual property, human
resources, and financial management. Services are provided at below

The County's Economic Development Staff works to recruit New Industry, "Prospects", and assists in Existing Industry expansions. Our office also serves as the liaison to all Local,
Regional, and State Economic Development resources. Our efforts are further supported by Community Leaders serving the

River Valley Small Business Development Center
Business Assistance Center, which includes the New
River Valley Small Business Development Center, is Radford University's
primary vehicle for contributing to economic development. The Center is
a "one stop shopping" center for business in need of
assistance. Businesses interested in information about expanding
international opportunities will find the International Trade Center of
Western Virginia of use.

Valley Economic Development Alliance
Provides information about investors, available sites and buildings,
demographics, geography, quality of life, news/events and other
information about the New River Valley and surrounding areas.
Valley Incubator Network
Serving the Counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski and the City of
Radford offering incubator tenants counseling with business plan development,
financial management and other business assistance as needed. Provides
opportunities for small businesses/industry in the area. In February 1998, the
Giles Business Incubator opened as a business development incubator and
currently houses six (6) tenants. The New River Valley Competitiveness Center is
an industrial development incubator that opened April 12, 1999 and currently has
ten (10) tenants. In the early planning stage is the Jacksonville Center in
Floyd County. This incubator will be dedicated to start-up artisan and craft
Valley Development Corporation
The New River Valley Development Corporation is a non-profit organization
which was formed in 1983 by the Counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, and
Pulaski, and the Towns of Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and Pulaski, and the City
of Radford. The Corporation consists of four representatives of these eight
localities and one additional member appointed by the Planning District
Commission. The Development Corporation is representative of business,
government, finance, and civic organizations.
Rogers Workforce Investment Area
The New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Investment Board is made up of community leaders appointed by the Chief Local Elected Officials of Bland, Carroll, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Montgomery, Pulaski, Smyth, Washington, and Wythe Counties and the Cities of Bristol, Galax and Radford to address the workforce needs of the local area.
New River Valley Planning District Commission

New River Valley Small Business Development Center
The Virginia SBDC network is the most extensive business development program in the Commonwealth. The network is a partnership between the U.S. Small Business Administration, George Mason University-Mason Enterprise Center at the School of Public Policy and premier local host organizations throughout Virginia. The Virginia Small Business Financing Authority (VSBFA) is the Commonwealth's economic development financing arm. We do not have grant programs. It functions as a marketing tool for Virginia goods and services, as well as a supply management resource for organizations around the world. The U.S. Small Business Administration provides financial, technical and
management assistance to help Americans start, run, and grow their businesses.
With a portfolio of business loans, loan guarantees and disaster loans worth
more than $45 billion, in addition to a venture capital portfolio of $13
billion, SBA is the nation's largest single financial backer of small
businesses. Last year, the SBA offered management and technical assistance to
more than one million small business owners. The SBA also plays a major role
in the government's disaster relief efforts by making low-interest recovery

Small Business and Self-Employed Tax Center
The Small Business and Self-Employed Tax Center provides
critical tax information to small businesses including forms, instructions,
and publications. It also provides valuable business information from a
variety of government agencies, non-profit organizations, and educational
institutions. The website contains essential startup information needed by new
small businesses in order to be successful. The design makes finding
information easy and quick and incorporates file formats and browsers which
can be run on virtually any desktop or laptop computer.
